The all new and redesigned 2017 Ford F-350 is a revolutionary step forward in the full-size, heavy-duty pickup truck market. The F-350 has set itself apart from the competition by rethinking the entire segment and offering an all-aluminum body on all of its models to reduce the curb weight while maintaining both the expected payload and towing values. The all-aluminum body and pickup box reduces the curb weight by up to 350 lb. and this translates to better fuel efficiency with either the gas or diesel engines.

The F-350 is offered as either a single rear-wheel (SRW) or a dual rear-wheel (DRW) truck. It is available with a 4x2 or a 4x4 drivetrain and has three different cab configurations (regular, super and crew). The SRW models include regular cabs with an 8-foot box, while the super and crew cabs are both offered with either a 6.75-foot box or an 8-foot box. The DRW models are all offered with the 8-foot box. For 2017, the F-350 has an expanded lineup of trims. In addition to the customary XL, XLT and Lariat trims, the F-350 now offers both the King Ranch on all crew cabs and the Platinum on the 4x4 crew cabs. Two engine choices include a standard 6.2-liter 385-hp Triton V8 with 430 lb.-ft. of torque or the optional and innovative 6.7-liter turbo 440-hp V8 Powerstroke diesel with an incredible 925 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are mated to a TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift and a Tow/Haul mode. The F-350 offers standard amenities such as traction control, a hill launch assist feature, six airbags including side curtains, air conditioning, manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel and trailer sway control. The XLT adds many features including power and heated exterior mirrors, 18-inch aluminum wheels (SRW only), locking under seat storage compartments, SiriusXM satellite radio, SYNC, cruise control, power door locks with a remote keyfob, a rear camera and power windows. The Lariat adds to the features found on the XLT with electronic shift on the fly for the 4x4's, LED spot lights on the exterior mirrors, an auto dimming interior rearview mirror, power leather front seats, automatic climate control, a premium Sony audio system, SYNC 3, power adjustable pedals, a leather steering wheel and a power rear window with defrost. The new for 2017 King Ranch further adds to the Lariat features by offering illuminated running boards, a two tone paint application, automatic high-beam control, heated and ventilated front seats with memory control for the driver, HD radio, a navigation system, Intelligent Access with a push button start, a power operated tilt and telescoping steering wheel and a remote start system. The new for 2017 Platinum trim also further adds to the Lariat trim by offering power running boards, adaptive speed-sensing steering, Quad LED head lamps and tail lamps, 20-inch aluminum wheels (SRW only), multi-contour massaging front seats, heated rear seats and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). The F-350 towing capabilities are unmatched in the heavy-duty pickup truck segment. Features such as a smart trailer tow connector, a dynamic hitch assist option that utilizes cameras to facilitate hitching up a trailer, a trailer brake controller and a 360 degree trailer tow camera system coupled with outstanding towing values allows the F-350 to stand alone in this segment.

The 2017, the all-aluminum F-350 combines fuel efficiency, capability and refinement in one complete package. The availability of five distinct trims and several new safety features combined with a host of available options and packages allows this truck to be configured to suit any customers' needs.

Quick Quotes
Two new engines are said to make clear power gains over last year's counterparts, which were hardly wimps to begin with.
- Car and Driver, CarsDirect
The full-size truck world remains wedded to the idea that bigger is better, and that too much power will never be enough.
- Car and Driver, CarsDirect
The Ford transmission seemed to more smoothly distribute power through all the gears, without any of the relatively harsh shifting of the Ram HD when empty.

Introduction

The Ford F-Series Super Duty lineup has been completely redesigned for 2017, and there has never been a better time to tow or haul with an F-250 or F-350 or, for that matter, an F-450.

Fresh styling highlights a new aluminum-alloy body.Beneath that, is an all-new fully boxed frame that's significantly lighter yet dramatically stronger than previously, a benefit of its extensive use of high-strength steel.

The optional 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V8 produces an awesome 925 foot-pounds of torque. The standard 6.2-liter V8 is rated at 385 horsepower, 430 foot-pounds of torque.

Adaptive steering slows the ratios at high speeds for enhanced stability, increases at low speeds to ease steering in tight quarters.Adaptive cruise control is available for use even when pulling heavy trailers. All the latest safety features are available, among them tire pressure monitoring for the trailer, a blind-spot monitor that will work for trailers up to 33 feet long, lane departure warning, forward collision warning.

New convenience features include a camera aimed at the truck bed, useful for hooking up a gooseneck. An optional tow camera setup uses four cameras for a 360-degree view around the truck.Backing up is eased somewhat with trailer reverse guidance visual cues on the rearview camera. Also available: a trailer camera, useful when backing up.Cameras every which way, seven all told.

The styling looks new yet familiar at the same time.

Though completely new, much of the 2017 Super Duty cabin will seem familiar to anyone accustomed to the previous-generation models. It's the same, only different.

A large number of Super Duty trucks are basic XL models purchased for commercial use, people who buy trucks that other people have to drive.Lariat and King Ranch models are favored by those who buy F-250s and F-350s for personal use, towing trailers, hauling you name it.Crew Cabs are popular because they make for an incredibly capable and versatile vehicle.

Most popular for towing trailers are an F-250 short bed or an F-350 long bed dually.Choosing between them can be difficult. What we've found: The F-250 tows very well and is much easier to park. The long dually does indeed substantially increase stability when pulling a big trailer, but it's less convenient as a daily driver.

A properly equipped 2017 F-350 is rated to a gooseneck capacity of 32,000 pounds.

The Ford F-350 compares with the GMC Sierra 3500, Chevrolet Silverado 3500, and Ram 3500, while the F-250 can be shopped against the Chevy Silverado 2500, Sierra 2500, Ram 2500, and the Nissan Titan XD.
